Will Getting Healthier Make You More Confident?
I had a client who was very overweight and painfully introverted. There was no telling what exactly was going on in her head because she just wouldn’t hold a conversation of any depth with anyone. All her answers to any questions were short ending all attempts at a conversation.
But I knew that if I could help her transform herself physically it would open the door to a whole new world. A world where she felt great about herself. Among whatever other issues she was dealing with at the time I knew that her self-image was another insecurity eating away at her.
She just didn’t think she was beautiful.
Beauty Is In The Eye Of The Beholder
What is beautiful? If you look at beauty icons of the last century what body image is defined as “beautiful” has altered drastically.
From Anna Nicole Smith’s full-figured look to Ziggy’s waifish body, from Farrah Fawcett’s all-American girl to Angelica Huston’s distinguish features, from the tall supermodels of the 80’s to the petite and super-curvy Jennifer Lopez, the ideal image of what is considered beautiful seems to be constantly changing.
Are all of these women beautiful? Yes, without a doubt. The truth is there is no one definition of what is beautiful.
If there is anything to take from this changing definition of beauty is that first and foremost one should never let popular culture define what is beautiful for you.
Make no mistake. You are beautiful. It is up to you to decide what is the best version of yourself to show the world, then embrace that vision of you and revel in it.
Beauty Comes In All Shapes And Sizes
These days the definition of what body-type looks beautiful isn’t so narrow. Now everything from tall to short, skinny to full-figured, and every colour hair and skin under the sun are all considered beautiful.
But how is it possible that so many different looks are all considered beautiful? Is there any consistent thread through all of them?
Healthy Is Beautiful
When you look at the pictures of all the women above one constant ties them together. They all look healthy and fit.
The truth is some people are naturally thinner than others and some women are curvier than others. But no matter what you natural shape being fit and healthy will make you look your absolute best.
What does it mean to be fit? It’s not being ridiculously lean or fitting a size zero…anything but…being fit is about being graceful, coordinated, flexible and yes, strong.

Being Fit Will Make You Confident
Confidence is sexy. Taking control of your fitness is empowering. Feeling healthy and strong makes life better. Daily chores are easier. Choosing what to wear isn’t a chore. Being alone with someone special is fun, not riddled with insecurity because you are confident in your own definition of beauty.
My client did end up losing an incredible amount of weight and over that time I saw her not only come out of her shell but she blossomed. As she looked better and better she was being noticed and treated differently by everyone around her. She later admitted to me that it was the constant barrage of compliments from everyone she knew that helped her come out of her shell.
Don’t kid yourself. Your potential is limitless. The problem is that most of us put limits on ourselves. We often sabotage our efforts to get fit before we have ever really tried to get fit.
Consider this point; people with much bigger roadblocks than you have transformed themselves drastically. All you have to do is search the internet for transformation stories.
Over 80% of people give up on their New Year’s fitness resolutions within a month of starting. The culprit is most often negative self-talk that gets us to quit.
You are a confident, beautiful, sexy woman and you can be as fit as you want to be if you are determined to start and never stop. All it takes is tenacity and persistence.
When you do commit to making fitness part of your life you will be confident in the knowledge that you are the kind of person who works for nothing but the best for themselves and so too demands the best from others.
