No seriously…I’m sick. Got a flu something fierce. My body aches all over and couple that with a nice little chest cold and fever and you got me proper sick. Not so much fun.
So, when it comes to all my fitness plans and goals and what not, what do I do when I’m sick? If it was just a cold I’d still workout. I just shorten the workouts and lower the intensity until the cold passed.
But with the flu, especially if you got it bad (and I got it bad) you don’t want to wear down your body as it’s fighting to get better. So working out isn’t going to happen for a couple of days. For that, I’ll play catch up later.
What I can control is how I eat. Now I’m not terribly hungry, but I should still eat something…all I have to do is make what I do eat nutritious.
A little oatmeal with raisins, peanuts, and apple sauce for breakfast, some home-made chili for lunch (recipe to be coming soon), and some homemade soup for dinner. I keep the pace with pints of water with a wedge of lemon and keep jacked on vitamin C with a couple of drops of oregano oil for my congestion.
I’ll suck on a small rock of Himalayan salts instead of a lozenge. The health benefits of Himalayan salts versus table salt are too numerous to mention here and now. Trust me though the difference is huge. It also helps to break up the phlegm plus it acts as a disinfectant killing what virus may be hanging out in my throat.
You are going to run into challenges as you strive towards your fitness goals. It’s the efforts you make when you don’t want to work out, when you’re tempted to eat terribly, and yes, even when you’re sick that is going to make the difference. It’s not going to take a lot of effort and before you know it you’ll have a whole new set of healthy habits.
Healthy habits and a rock’n bod.
